This section goes in depth on every weapon the Predator can/will carry. As the player progresses through the game they “evolve” into a more respected hunter, and the amount of technology available to them in their inventory will expand as the game goes on. You gain a default amount of respect by completing each level, but you will gain more if you hunt honorably, skin victims (if they have skin), and take trophies. When the game starts, the player is limited to wrist-blades, the burner, the standard hunting mask (which has thermal vision, and electrical vision because all beings give off a certain amount of electric energy), the cloaking device, the skinning kit, and the self-destruct. Wrist-blades A trademark Predator weapon, seen in both films and both games. These blades would be for honorable kills, and taking trophies. The blades are housed in a compartment on the Predator’s forearm; it’s your choice if he is right-handed or left-handed (customization will also be discussed later). The blades are invisible when the predator is cloaked, but once ejected out of their housing, ready for attack, they become visible. The primary attack is a powerful upward diagonal slash to the upper left of the screen, followed by a quick backhand slash to the right. This kills all light armor targets, seriously wounds medium armor targets, and takes half health from heavily armored targets. The secondary attack is a powerful upward stab, and if the player holds in the secondary attack key, the Predator will lift the victim into the air, and won’t toss it off the blades until the player releases the secondary attack key. This kills all targets in one hit. Naginata A very devastating close range weapon, it is about seven feet long, and weighs eight pounds with foot long blades on each end. The weapon is cloaked when the predator is, that is until it strikes, in which case it will become visible. Once this weapon is selected, there are three ways of attack. The primary attack is a double slash, which moves in a horizontal sweeping motion, causing extreme devastation to the desired target. The last part of the primary attack is a very powerful over-head strike, which happens immediately after the double slash. This will split the dead or almost dead target in two. The secondary attack is a powerful stab, which kills all targets in one shot, but takes several seconds to perform again. Therefore, you should not use this against multiple enemies. If the player holds in the secondary attack key, the predator will lift up the target with the spear still impaled in it, and hurl it to the side. The third and final way of attack is a throw function. Simply line up your target, hit the third attack key, and the predator will hurl the weapon in a straight line, which will travel 100 feet before dropping to the ground. The player will then have to walk over and retrieve it. Shoulder Mounted Plasma Caster This is the centerpiece of every hunter’s arsenal. This weapon is dependent on the Predator’s battery it carries in its backpack. While this weapon does automatically aim, the projectiles themselves do not home, but they do travel very fast. Buttons on the inside of the predator’s mask controls this weapon, and since that leaves the hands free, it can be used in conjunction with other weapons. There are many options with this weapon. First of all, there are different ways of targeting. The third attack key toggles the different modes of targeting. The first mode is, in the correct vision mode, the plasma caster will automatically target the nearest prey. The second mode of targeting is the player puts the crosshairs in a five-foot radius (scale distance of course) of the target, and taps the secondary fire button. That will send the tri laser onto the target, and the red triangle will zoom into view in the player’s mask, indicating a fix. Until the player fires or looks away so the target is completely out of their view, the laser and plasma caster will maintain the lock. Then the player is free to fire at will. There are adjustable levels of power with each shot. Holding the primary fire button raises this power, and that power is stored until the player takes their shot. It will not fire until the player once again hits the primary attack button. The bolt will blow a large hole through the living target it hits. The hole adjusts in size according to the power of the shot. Burner The burner is a large weapon, which is held with both hands. It fires a large, blazing bolt of plasma, which has slightly more power and the same effects then a fully charged plasma caster shot, but has the firing rate of a shotgun. It has it’s own independent battery, which allows for 15 shots. Once the power is exhausted the previous weapon automatically comes out, and the burner’s battery begins to recharge (the recharge rate is pretty slow). There is no secondary or third type of attack for this weapon. Chemical Sprayer This isn’t an overly powerful weapon, but is very useful in the Earth levels to melt away electronic and key locks, and for dissolving parts of humans (sounds cool doesn’t it). It comes with two types of ammunition. The secondary attack key switches the ammunition types, which are extremely corrosive acid, and a deadly toxin. The acid is very useful for melting locks, and the toxin is very deadly to living creatures that breathe. They inhale the toxin which disrupts the signals the brain sends out, effectively blocking the signals that tell the creature to do anything including breathing, and telling the heart to beat. The victim is, in turn, completely paralyzed and will die in a matter of seconds; the brain will not get any oxygen. Each type of ammunition has 7 shots. Once they run out, the player does not get more until they can acquire more from the inventory. There is no third type of attack. Smart Disk To get this weapon, a very large amount of respect must be gained. It’s a pretty basic weapon in terms of how it works, but is incredibly deadly (we all saw it in Predator 2 and Aliens versus Predator games), it has the exact same targeting system as the shoulder mounted plasma caster, but unlike the caster, it homes very precisely on the desired target and cuts it in half. Once it has done that, it automatically returns to the user’s hand. This weapon does not use any energy; an advanced homing computer in the disk performs the return and homing functions. But, exercise caution; the returning disk will give your position away to observant targets. Net Launcher This weapon also requires a high amount of respect to be gained before the player can access it. It fires a compact net, which opens up as soon as it exits the launcher. The net is made of very sharp wire mesh that can only be cut with a blade, and pins the victim to any near by objects, or the ground. There are several drills on the outside that drill into the ground or wall, causing the mesh to cut into the victim and eventually kill it. There is only one mode of attack for this weapon, which is simply press the primary attack button, and the net traps the desired target. The target will remain in the net slowly dying, or you can decide to be merciful and kill it quickly. The net launcher has ten shots, and you cannot get more until you can access the ammunition in your inventory. Self-Destruct This is a must have for every hunter; you start the game off with it. You can only activate it when you have 1/10 of your health left. We see the predator open up the mini-console on his left or right forearm, tap a few buttons, and we see the red symbols count down on the small computer while the predator laughs menacingly. And then just before it is about to go off, we switch to a camera view well above the predator, and we see the electric disturbance like in Predator 1, and then the mushroom cloud emerges, and it says GAME OVER across the screen. Then the player is forced to continue playing from the most recent saved point. Hand to Hand Perhaps the most essential weapon in the predator’s arsenal, his hand-to-hand skills! You can select your fists as a weapon like any other weapon, simply cycle through them until you get it. In this mode, the predator puts away all weapons, takes off his mask and hooks it to his belt, and raises his fists as he runs around. There are several modes of attack here. The primary attack is a series of punches. Tap it once; the predator throws a killer right jab. Tap it again right after the first, and the jab is followed by a powerful left hook. Tap it a third time right after the first two, and you get an extremely powerful right uppercut which will send your target flying and possible tear its head off, depending on how strong the target is. The secondary attack makes use of the predator’s talons. Tap the secondary attack button once, and the predator slashes with his right hand. Tap it right after that once more, and he does and upward swipe with his left hand. Tap it a third time right after the first two, and he slashes downward with both hands. This is a powerful attack, but has a slow rate of fire, about as slow as a shotgun. The third and final mode of attack with hand to hand is a one hit kill. Step up to your target, and hit the third attack button. The predator will grab it by the neck with his right arm, and hold it in the air. If you hold in the third attack button, he will keep crushing its neck until it is dead. Another, and much cooler option in my opinion, is to tap the secondary attack while the predator is holding the creature by the neck, and he will bring his left hand up and literally screw the creature’s head right off (this attack is best against humans).
