Outline of a Predator-only game [New Blood: Weapons] [New Blood: Equipment] [New Blood: Gameplay Overview] [New Blood: Gameplay MP] [Discuss in Forums] Predator: New Blood Introduction Predator’s P.O.V. Different hues of blue and black flash by as you make your way through the jungle treetops. You look down and spot blobs of heat, registering in orange, red, green, and some spots of white. You make your way down lower until you’re a mere two-dozen feet above the pack of humans below you. You zoom in, and activate your plasma caster. Three red lights in the shape of a triangle lance forth, connecting with a human’s back. You fire, and a bolt of plasma tears him apart, his innards spilling out across the undergrowth. You roar in victory, and elongate your spear, going in for close combat to finish the rest of them off. Now, imagine you could capture this, the essence of the Predator, into a game, a Predator only game. What would it be like? Read on and find out. The Predator: Physical Attributes In every game we have gotten thus far, namely Aliens versus Predator, and it’s sequel, Aliens versus Predator2, we have gotten, according to the developers, a Predator. Where, I ask? I don’t see any Predator. I only see a short marine with a cloak and super jump, which can be killed in a mere five pistol shots. Where is the real Predator? Well, we all know that in every game so far, the Predator wasn’t itself. For certain reasons, mostly “balance,” the Predator has been watered down into a weak, Brady Bunch version of itself. In this game, no such thing will happen. The first and most obvious thing to fix is the height problem. Predators are enormous, usually around eight feet tall, and incredibly strong. In our Predator only game, we would see this. The Predators are also extremely tough. They shrug off mostly every round, except one that is high caliber, as in a 7.62 millimeter round from an M-14, or a shotgun slug from just a few feet away. Another important physical attribute is the speed of the Predator. From various scenes in Predator, and its less popular sequel, we can surmise that the Predator makes Michel Johnson look like a turtle in terms of speed. In Predator 2, the Predator catches up with that passenger train which is moving at a decent speed. Whether he ran it down in the tracks or not is uncertain, but to get from the cemetery to the train in that amount of time is no easy task. Either way, the Predator booked. That’s also part of the Predator’s fear factor, that no matter how fast you are, he is faster. So, in this game, he should be running at the very least twice as fast as the humans. And of course, there should also be an option to walk, so you don’t have to run constantly. Predators are incredible climbers. They can move through trees almost as fast as on foot, and can scale tall buildings in seconds (Predator 2). That means in this game, we must be able to climb. To climb a tree, we can have our predator look at a branch, and press the “climb” key. The Predator’s arms would lash out, grab the branch, and he would pull himself up in about a second. To speed up the process, you can look at a higher branch, hit the jump key, and then hit the climb key when you are at the peak of your jump. The arms will lash out, and pull our predator up (point of view and controls will be discussed in a later section). The Predator will keep on climbing until you hit the climb key once more to stop the climbing process, or until there is nothing left to climb. You can use the direction keys to adjust which direction the predator climbs in. For example, he climbs vertically by default. Press the up key along with the right/left key, he will move diagonally upward. Just press the right/left key, he will move horizontally. We also know the predators are incredible jumpers. In the game, there will be a few different ways to jump. If you run in any direction and hit the jump key, the predator will jump ten feet high, and will jump a distance of forty feet. If you are walking, or standing still, hit the jump key, and the predator will jump twenty-five feet high, but will only jump a forward distance of five feet. There will be no completely flat-faced structures in the game. Buildings have fire escapes and ledges, rock faces have many hand and foot holds. So to climb these rock faces and buildings, you simply look up and hit the climb key. You will see the Predator grab on to various holds and outcroppings. Again, as with the trees, the Predator will keep climbing until you hit the climb key, or there is nothing left to climb.
