This section goes into detail on each piece of gear. Hunter Mask This is the basic mask worn by the player in the beginning of the game. It does not offer wide spectrum viewing like its more advanced counter part, the bio-helmet, but offers great protection, breathing gear, as well as infrared and electric vision. You filter through the visions by hitting the vision change button. With the Hunter Mask as well as the Bio-Helmet, you can zoom in quite a long way, which greatly aids you in hunting. Being able to observe your prey from a distance with perfect clarity gives the game a more of a movie feel. Another interesting feature of the hunter mask is the audio waveform analyzer. By tapping a button, it comes down and covers part of the field of vision on the left. It has a red line that fluctuates when it detects sound, and can be activated to record anything the predator hears while it is activated. When activated, the predator can also select a sound to play back, and the more times you play the sound, the more perfect it will become until it is exactly the sound you recorded. You can use this function at any time to scare and taunt your prey, but exercise caution. As you perfect the recording, your enemies will be able to hear you if they are close enough. This is part of the taunt function of the game, when your audio waveform analyzer isn’t activated, hitting the taunt button will result in several different roars, growls, and clicks. A novelty function of this mask is the “eye flash.” Press the button, and your eyes will flash, which will be accompanied by an ominous clicking, scaring your prey. To keep realism in the game, when you get hit with something in the head your vision will waver slightly, depending on what hit you and how hard it hit you. The wavering can last up to three seconds. And of course, you will hear the rhythmic beating and electric sort of sound straight from the movies when we are watching from the Predator’s point of view, to give you that movie feel. You start out with the hunter mask in your inventory in the beginning of the game. Listen to sound file (570k) Bio Helmet A more advanced version of the hunter mask. You can literally filter through every single spectrum of light with this mask, and it also takes hits much better then the hunter mask, it doesn’t shift when something hits it, slightly shaking your vision. Instead it remains perfectly still, keeping your vision perfect at all times. This mask is usually available after completing the second level. Laser Sight This is the tri laser that lances forth when you target a victim with your plasma caster or disk. That’s all it does. Camouflage Device This is essential for every hunter when he is hunting a prey that is very dangerous (which is every kind of prey). You select it in your inventory at the beginning of the game just like everything else. Hitting the cloak button will emit a brief electrical sound along with a small series of beeping, and your vision will become slightly less clear. That is because a cloaking field has just enveloped you, and now you just appear to things that see in the visual spectrum as a slight shimmering. This device is dependent on your energy supply that comes from the battery in your backpack, and therefore does not have an infinite supply. Back Pack Battery This battery powers your cloak, shoulder cannon, and anything else that rely on a battery (except for the burner which has its own batter). You don’t have to select this in your inventory, you get it automatically. Armor Like the cloak, you do not have to select this, it is automatic. Almost nothing can penetrate your armor, but it only covers most of your chest, shoulders, wrists, knees, and shins. Everything else is only covered by your wire netting, which provides no protection. Your armor, along with the rest of your equipment and weapons, are customizable (which will be discussed later). Med-kit You start off with the standard med-kit, which includes 4 shrapnel/bullet removers, 4 wound clamps, one wound stapler (unlimited use, cauterizes flash together), and two stimulant shots. This shot induces “mind over matter” and removes the element of pain. It travels through the body eliminating infections. If you use all of the equipment to heal your injuries save for the stimulant shot, you gain back 60% health. In some cases, that may take you back to 100% health, or close to it. If you use a stimulant shot (which should only be use if you’re at the brink of death or if you need medical attention that will be over and done with in a few seconds) your health goes to 200%, but goes down to 100% in about one minute. Too add a touch of realism, the predator will growl, grunt, and screech in pain as you perform your medical tasks, so be careful, because others can hear. Recharge Device This is an item you automatically start with without going into your inventory. You select it like every other weapon. When you do, you see and hear the predator hooking up a battery pack to the battery in the backpack, and you see your energy supply go up. This item takes thirty seconds to fully recharge your energy, and has three uses per level (if you use everything that depends on your energy pack constantly, it will take five minutes for it do run out of energy, that’s a lot of energy). Emergency Breather This is what you must use to breath when your mask has been lost and you cannot find it. You need to press no buttons for it, every once in a while you see the predator press it against his face for a breath of his natural air. It only uses air when it is pressed to the predator’s face, but only lasts about an hour. You can turn it off by hitting the primary attack button while the predator is putting it to his face, but you will loose 3 percent of your health every minute if you do not use the breather. You cannot get another mask until you beat the level and can access your inventory. There, you must trade in trophies, or if you don’t have enough, some type of weapon for a new mask or bio helmet. It is suggested you do anything you have to in order to get another helmet, it is your lifeline. Skinning Kit If you feel like taking the time for a little extra fun, break this baby out. You select it just like every other weapon. When you do, the predator first takes out a large knife. Step up to the body, and we will see the predator slash it several times, turn it over, and then slash it more. Then we see the predator pick up the victim, and the skin falls off. If you can find nothing to hang it with, you can find a flat, vertical surface. Look at the body, hit secondary attack (while your skinning knife is still out) and the predator will pick the body up. Walk over to the flat vertical surface, and hit the third attack key. The predator will hold the victim up to the surface upside down, and drive small spikes through two of its limbs, holding it into the surface. The skinning kit has 5 uses per level. If you are attacked, simply select a weapon, kill whatever attacked you, and select your skinning kit to go on where you left off.
